If you are not careful, some hiragana characters may become indistinguishable from another hiragana character.
|
Hiragana あ and お may become confusing
- if there is an extra short stroke in あ
OR
- if the second stroke of お is separated into two strokes 十 and の.
|
|
Hiragana い and り may become indistinguishable
- if the second stroke of い is too long
OR
- if the second stroke of り is too short.
|
|
Hiragana う and ら may become indistinguishable
- if the second stroke of う is too emphatic at the beginning
OR
- the beinning part of the second stroke of ら is short and not vertical.
|
|
Hiragana す and お may become indistinguishable
- if the loop of the second stroke of す is too wide to the right
OR
- if the ending loop of the second stroke of お is too tight
and dragged down (with the third stroke, it may look like ず)
|
|
Hiragana お and む may become indistinguishable
- if the ending loop of the second stroke of お is deformed
OR
- if the ending of the second stroke of む is deformed
|
|
Hiragana わ and れ may become indistinguishable
- if the ending loop of the second stroke of わ is not curved left
OR
- if the ending of the second stroke of れis not curved right
|
If the ending of the last stroke of these characters has a too much/little curl,
each character may be confused for another. |
|
Hiragana ち is NOT a mirror image of hiragana さ strictly speaking,
but they
may look like the other
- if the second stroke of ち is separated into two strokes,
OR
- if さ is flipped horizontally. (If さ is written in a different font (さ),
the similarity between flipped さ and ち is more striking.)
|
|
Hiragana ま may look like hiragana ほ, or or the other way around
- if there is an extra vertical stroke in ま
OR
- if the last stroke in ほ crosses the horizontal stroke (ー).
|
|
Hiragana よ may look like hiragana ま, or or the other way around
- if the short horizontal stroke (ー) is crossed by the second stroke in よ
OR
- if one of the horizontal strokes in ま is missing.
|
|
Hiragana ほ may become hiragana は, or the other way around
- if the second stroke is missing from ほ
OR
- if there is an extra horizontal stroke in は.
|
|
Hiragana き may become hiragana さ, or the other way around
- if the one of the horizontal strokes is missing from き
OR
