Roleplay Guideline 2

The procedure for roleplay 2 is similar to roleplay 1. Before the day of roleplay, you will be paired with someone in class to form a team. Both of you will play a customer. The instructor will play a waiter/waitress. On the day of the roleplay, each team will receive a separate instruction (e.g., menu, what to order, how to respond, etc.). Each team will be given 5 minutes to prepare for the roleplay.

After the time is up, you will roleplay a 1 to 2 minute restaurant conversation.

After the roleplay, the audience will be asked to write down what the customers ordered (exact item and quantity) and explain why he/she ordered it if any reason was given (e.g., ～さんと～さんは～を Qtyと ～を Qty にしました。～より～のほうが～からです。) and submit it to the instructor.
Use as many expressions we learned so far as possible.

Example:

You are in a Japanese restaurant with your friend.

A: なにを食べましょうか。
B: ここは なにが おいしいですか。
A: ～がおいしいですよ。
B: ～ですか。でも、～ですね。
A: ああ、そうですね。じゃ、わたしは～から、～にします。
B: わたしは～にします。～ですから。

Waiter/Waitress: いらっしゃいませ。ごちゅうもんは？
A: ～をおねがいします。
B: わたしは～をください。
Waiter/Waitress: かしこまりました。お飲みものは？
A: ～をください。
B: わたしは～をおねがいします。
Waiter/Waitress: すみませんが、～はございませんが。
B: そうですか。じゃ、～でいいです。
Waiter/Waitress:: かしこまりました。～をお一つと～をお一つ、お飲みものは～をお一つと～をお一つですね。
B: あ、やっぱりわたしも～にします。
A: お飲み物は～をお二つですね。かしこまりました。

Criteria:
  • Did the conversation follow the given assignment?
  • Did the conversation follow the time limitations?
  • Was conversation grammatically accurate and contained many structures learned so far?
  • Was the conversation clear (e.g., pronunciation, intonation, rhythm)?
