Problems in Wimba Classroom
Q1: Nothing happens (or the page is blank) when I go to Setup Wizard.
A1: You may have an active popup window blocker. If so, please disable it. OR, you may not have installed (or upgraded to) the latest Java plug-in. Go to http://java.com.
Q2: I can't login to T-Square.
A2: Did you type username/password correctly? It may have an underscore ( _ ) instead of a hyphen ( - ). Did you type them in lowercases? If your username/password seems to be correct, contact Masato Kikuchi (kikuchi@gatech.edu).
Q3: I can enter the classroom, but I can't hear anything or other people can't hear me when I speak into the microphone.
A3: Is your headset plugged into the correct audio input/output port (or USB-port) and turned on (if there is an on-off switch)?
Check your headset "Mute" button (if any). Is it turned OFF?
If there is a volume control, is it set high enough?
Are you holding down the Ctrl key while you speak?
Is your Sound Control Panel set to use your headset-microphone? (See below.)
For example, if you are using Windows XP, open your Settings---Control Panel---Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. Under the "Volume" tab, check "Advanced..." Under "Speaker setup", choose "Stereo headphones" and click "Apply" and "OK". This will switch from default audio setup to your headset. Under "Audio" tab, make sure your headset device is chosen for both "Sound playback" and "Sound recording".

If all of the above fail, you can use a regular phone and join the live session by calling the simulcast phone number (and entering your PIN) obtained by clicking on the telephone icon during the session. Whenever you enter a Wimba Classroom session, all pariticipants are assigned with a unique PIN for that session. Write down both of those numbers and call in. (A long-distance charge to N.Y. area will apply to your call.)
Q4: The person sounds too loud or I hear too much noise every time someone speaks.
A4: If this happens only with some people, this is probably not your fault. Please ask those "loud" people to lower the microphone sensitivity or push the microphone away from their mouth. If their mouth (or hand) is touching the microphone (even lightly) when they speak, this will also result in loud noise.
Q5: I hear delayed echoes in the background when someone speaks.
A5: The person who is speaking is using a loudspeaker instead of a headset. Please ask that person to use a microphone headset and turn off the speakers. If someone is holding down the Ctrl key at the same time as you did, this may also result in delayed echoes.
Q6: People respond after a long delay when I speak.
A6: Under a normal condition through a broadband connection, delays are minimum if any (less than a second). If the response is consistently slower than that, this could be due to different reasons. Assuming that there are no connection problems, the person may be thinking or simply stalling. Or, he/she is using a dial-up connection. (To take our online courses, dial-up users are required to upgrade to a broadband connection or find another computer with a broadband connection.)
Q7: My computer slows down or even crashes during my Wimba Classroom session.
A7: This could be due to many reasons ranging from software issues such as virus, spyware, adware, and other programs incompatible with Wimba Classroom or hardware issues such as too little RAM memory or other faulty hardware. Some third-party software such as Google Desktop may interfere with the normal operation of Wimba Classroom.
Problems in WebCT Vista
Q1: I get rerouted to a relogin page (University list page) after I logged in to WebCT Vista.
A1: If you stay inactive for too long without logging out, Vista will take you back to the login page OR it will take you to the universities list. If the latter happens, please click on "University System of Georgia Collaborative Programs" to get back to our login page. If Vista still takes you to the universities list after login, quit your browser completely (Close all open browser windows) and relaunch it.
Q2: I can't login to WebCT Vista.
A2: Did you type username/password correctly? It may have an underscore ( _ ) instead of a hyphen ( - ). Did you type them in lowercases? The username/password to enter USG's WebCT Vista may be different from those used to enter GT's T-Square. If your username/password seems to be correct, contact Masato Kikuchi (kikuchi@gatech.edu).
Q3: I was able to login, but my course is not listed on myWebCT page.
A3: Contact your instructor first. If you can't reach your instructor, contact Masato Kikuchi (kikuchi@gatech.edu).
Q4: Some audio/video files don't play on my computer.
A4: Have you installed the required plugin software such as Flash Player or QuickTime? If so, is it the default media player for those audio/video files? (Run QuickTime Player and when asked, click Yes/OK to make QuickTime to play those media files by default. If the media files are created by Flash, you may need to install the Flash Player from Adobe/Macromedia. (For specific media files you have problems with, ask your instructor which media player is required.) To install these additional browser plugins, go back to Step 2.
For additional help, go to Tech Support for WebCT Vista. If they ask your affiliation, mention that you belong to "Foreign Language Collaboratives" group.
